Pencil in an elevator?

Welcome to DevelopmenTip!

Here I will share my knowledge and recommend developmental activities that I have either learned about or developed during my 14 years of working with children as an Occupational therapist. I will explain the importance of the activity and the developmental principles that underlie it.

Today, for those who are going into first grade and even for older kids, I present the "pencil in the elevator" – an activity that develops pencil grip by manipulating the pencil (changing its place and position) in the hand.

Consistent practice of this activity when using a pencil will significantly develop a child’s fine motor skills and pencil grip in a way that is both fun and challenging.
